New Year, New Beginings

2012 brings the hope of starting over, accomplishing long-overdue tasks, and finding direction. I am in the midst of a neverending journey of self-discovery. This year's theme is: Love.

I joined a small group in October 2011 that has changed my life forever. The women in this group are teaching me faith, humility, grace, forgiveness, trust, and even love by their stories and lives. To find such friends is a rare treasure, indeed.

The new year initiated a study topic called "One Little Word" (http://myoneword.org/). I had never heard of it before, but the concept seems brilliant. We were given a worksheet to assist in the selection of our OLW.

First, we wrote down words that described who we wanted to become in light of who God created us to be. My words were: Love, Kind, Gentle, Merciful, Forgiving, Grace, Faith, and Trust.

The next steps included writing the definitions, synonyms, and verses that pertained to each word to narrow down our choices. My word was clear. Every definition and verse included some aspect of "Love".

The final step was to select a verse that exemplifies the word to meditate on it all year long. I am still pondering on which verse to select. However, in light of what God has revealed to me recently, I believe it will be -

Mark 12:30-31 "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."
